NHS Fylde and Wyre Clinical Commissioning Group, in conjunction with Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, has launched a new specialist falls vehicle for residents in Fylde and Wyre.
The car contains a paramedic and a rapid response physiotherapist and is called upon when a 999 call is placed following a fall in or near the home.
The intention is that with the help of the physiotherapist, the risk of falls in the future can be negated to prevent future hospital admissions and, in the first instance, the patient is treated in their home without the need for an ambulance ride to the local A&E.
In this video, we follow paramedic Steve Bruce and physiotherapist Ben Green on a journey from the 999 call being placed, the falls car being dispatched to the team’s response and helping the patient.
We also hear from falls patient Syd Rowe about his real experience of suffering a fall and having been helped to get back on his feet by the falls vehicle team.
