South Western Ambulance
Within a year of introducing
the ELK, sickness had
reduced by 10% saving the
service over £300K.
In 2009 South Western
Ambulance (SWAST) introduced
the Mangar ELK lifting cushions
into their fleet of ambulances.
SWAST attend around 130,000
emergency call outs a year and
23% of the calls were to lift people
who had fallen. SWAST were also
recording more than 5,000 lost
staff days to musculoskeletal
injuries costing the service over
£3m a year.
