    Buying Advice – Mangar Store

When purchasing a bed, bath or lifting aid from Mangar Health there are a couple of things you should consider first:

Who else uses the bath/bed in your household?

An important thing to consider when purchasing any Mangar product, especially one of our bed or bathing aids, is whether or not you’re going to be using it in a shared space. Most assisted living aids require permanent fixtures or installations, making it difficult for those around you who do not require assistance. Mangar bathing products, however, can easily be removed after every use, meaning it can be stored away when it isn’t being used.

If you’re using a Handy PillowLift or Sit-U-Up, they are ‘pillow-width’, meaning they won’t cause any disturbance to a second person in bed.

How much space do you have?

Your choice of product may also depend on how much space you have in your house, particularly if you’re looking at purchasing one of our bathing products.

If you were to buy a lift or hoist, you would need to find out what equipment will best suit your bath, which usually involves a consultation. You may also require additional fixtures, such as grab rails if extra support is needed getting in and out of the bed or bath.

Our Bathing Cushions, however, need no additional fixtures and will fit into most shaped and sized baths, but check before buying to make sure.

    How much will it cost?

The cost of every available option will vary greatly. Although there other options available, Mangar products are cheaper and often more appropriate than a full adaptation, which is likely to cost between £1,000 and £3,000.

It is important to always check what you are getting for your money.  For example, do they offer after sales support, warranties, free delivery and free fitting?

Don’t forget to enquire if you are VAT exempt. If you are unsure visit www.hmrc.gov.uk for more information.

Who can I ask for advice?

Your Mangar experience is completely unique to you, meaning it may be difficult to judge your needs and abilities. That being said, there are a number of different ways you can get help and advice.

We can carry out an assessment with a local occupational therapist as a way of identifying your needs, demonstrating what equipment would be most valuable to you.

Another way to try before you buy is by visiting your local mobility store or disabled living centre, where the products can be demonstrated to you.

It is important to choose the option for your needs both now and for the future, which is why we would never sell you a product that doesn’t work for you.
